"We don’t believe in just creative copywriting. We believe in strategic copywriting. Copywriting that is executed with precision. Copywriting that is written to inspire action. And copywriting that is audience-driven and geared for results."
- WORDFETTI (Our copywriting crush)
Writing words that are compelling and can sell is one thing... But writing words that have the ability to connect, resonate, educate, and inspire is quite another!
We’re on the hunt for a world-class copywriter. Not just a funny, creative copywriter (though if you can make us chuckle, you'll win our hearts) but also a strategic copywriter that can execute with laser-focused precision.
If you think you can sling a sentence together in a way that is meaningful, intentional and sounds satisfying as heck - let's talk!
Dear Copywriting Extraordinaire,
How would you like to:
Work for a company where you can make a real difference!
Where you’re much more than just a number?
Where you actually love what you do and enjoy going to work?
Work where there’s a huge opportunity for both professional & personal growth?
Where you can take ownership of a brands voice & identity?
Where you can (and are encouraged to) eat Tim-Tams as you work?
And, more importantly, where you have a team that shares your passion for words and pushes your creative boundaries.
If you’ve always wanted to grow a brand, take ownership of its voice, and have a boat-load of fun while doing it, this could be your dream role!
We’re looking for a conversion-focused copywriter who quote-unquote “gets it”. Someone who understands how tone, content, and positioning need to change depending on who we're talking to, what the goal is, where they're at in the sales funnel, etc. Someone whose quick-witted, friendly, encouraging, & punny personality perfectly aligns with the brand's already established tone. Someone... like you?
Before you learn more about the opportunity, I should probably introduce myself...
Who am I?
I’m the growth-focused co-founder of Mister Jones, a fast-growing e-commerce business well on its way to becoming a globally recognised brand. Not to brag. (Just kidding, definitely bragging.)
Prior to going “all in” on the idea of Mister Jones I’d spent 10+ years climbing the corporate ladder, only to realise that once I neared the top, the ladder I was hastily climbing was propped against the wrong wall…
Long commutes, politics & stupidly long hours - enough was enough.
Half an MBA, 50+ best selling business books, and 100’s of podcasts later, Mister Jones was born. Mazeltov!
Starting from our dining room table in 2017, Mister Jones has grown into a truly amazing brand that is committed to helping women feel their best. Nearly 3 years on, our small but mighty team of 5 is ready to welcome a new member to the family.
Our vision for Mister Jones is to foster a company where people want to work because they enjoy what they do and that their work helps to bring real, tangible value to our customers' lives.
In short, we want to have fun, help people, and be good human beings. So far so good!
Enough about me, here’s the opportunity:
This role is much, much, more than writing about features and benefits…
It’s about connecting with audiences, sharing valuable content, and changing the way they think about themselves, health & wellness. For the better. Duh.
Every piece of content you create in this role will work to leave a positive impression every time - whether they buy our products or not.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for creating content that connects, educates, inspires, and sells. From blog posts to emails to sales pages and everything in between - you will be our in-house copy queen (or king).
You’ll understand how to interpret data and adjust your writing style as needed to achieve the desired result.
You’ll be assigned a broad range of projects to take ownership of.
You’ll be mentored & coached both by our in-house team as well as being offered world-class niche-specific training.
You'll be sent many cute animal memes over instant message.
Please note: This is a full-time, remote (work from home in your PJ pants), in-house position.
About the successful candidate:
We believe that creative work, especially copywriting, is an expression of one's true self.
A person's experiences, interests & passions shape the way in which they view the world, solve problems and write.
We know that inspirational and motivational messaging resonates with our audience.
We also know this is something that can’t be faked or forced - it must be authentic or it sounds faker than a plastic pot plant from IKEA.
Hence, the successful candidate for this role is someone skilled in direct response copywriting and genuinely passionate about self-development.
By passionate, we mean someone who outside of office hours, reads books and listens to podcasts on the topic. Someone whose Instagram feed is filled with inspirational quotes and content from thought leaders.
Why do we want this? Because this is the messaging and tone of Mister Jones. We work to inspire, motivate, coach, and encourage our customers, just as much as we wish to sell to them. We want to build a relationship with our customers, they're much more to us than just a transaction.
Plus, for someone who loves the subject & copywriting, coming to work won’t feel as much like ‘work’... which is ultimately what we all want, right?
Skills we’re looking for:
We’re looking for someone who…
Can think strategically, write creatively, and execute with perfection
Is genuinely passionate about personal development
Is a good human (critically important)
Doesn’t settle for mediocre
Can employ their empathy & get inside our audiences psyche
Has a general understanding of design & web principles
Is a self-starter who won’t take no for an answer
Can interpret data to guide strategic decision making
Can juggle multiple projects at once with a smile
Is a finisher. Do you hate leaving projects unfinished?
You must love the details of your projects and work to ensure the user has an wonderful experience with your content.
Knowledge/experience in Klaviyo
Basic/intermediate design skills. You won't be expected to create ads from scratch but it would be well regarded if you had the skills to make minor design edits & tweaks on the fly.
Basic/intermediate knowledge and experience in SEO
Who this job is not for:
Someone who thinks their 💩doesn’t stink - we’re all human!
Someone who is only motivated by a boss telling him or her to work harder
Someone who doesn’t believe that how you feel on the inside directly correlates with how you perform in life and business.
Leonardo DiCaprio. We hear he's busy.
We hire the best, regardless of their location:
We believe flexibility in where you work leads to better performance and happiness. Performance and attitude is the most important aspect of this job, not clocking hours in the office or water cooler politics. Hell, we don't even have a water cooler!
Want to draft up some copy from your local cafe? Or set up shop with your laptop and music blasting from the comfort of your couch? Fine with us. As long as you can work on an AU* timezone, we’re cool with it. (*5-6 hours overlap minimum)
In this role, Zoom, Loom and Slack will be part of your daily tool kit allowing you to do your best work asynchronously with the rest of our global team.
Unlike other jobs, we don’t believe that what you do should dictate where you live.
We’re looking for people who can demonstrate they hold themselves to a higher standard in everything they do because with great flexibility comes great responsibility. I think that's a Spider-Man quote.
All this flexibility doesn’t mean we’re not a close-knit team… For your first month, you’ll be working side-by-side with the CEO/CMO, and after that, you’ll have daily meetings and annual retreats to make sure we’re growing stronger as a team and as friends (we’re shooting to the Maldives for our next annual retreat *pending COVID, woohoo!)
We hire characters, not positions:
We’re a small company with big aspirations, we work hard (and have a LOT of fun) while making it happen. If you have what it takes as an individual - in other words, if you’re a consistent high-achiever in everything you do in life - then you'll fit in just fine!
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) :
Well um... Copywriting for starters
Followed by copywriting, copywriting, and more copywriting
And then some really clever tactical email stuff thrown in for a mix
By copywriting I mean creating disruptive, thought-provoking, and engaging; Pre-sale engagement articles, blog posts, email, sales pages, sales letters, product pages and basically, any other kind of media that contains words...
Developing, identifying, and articulating USP’s for new products
Content writing (Collaborating with our in-house Naturopath)
Documenting brand voice, USP’s, values & mission
Documenting customer personas
Many, many hats will be worn.
Must love hats 👒
What's in it for you?
Here's your chance to put your copywriting and entrepreneurial drive to good use!
You’ll be a part of making really critical decisions that will help us grow as a business, create value for our audience, and have fun while doing it.
You'll be taking over a very important role in the company and it's a big opportunity!
Remuneration is based on experience & performance. Bonuses will be tied to results and the potential to earn 6 figures + is very, very, real.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be a part of building a successful global brand, have fun, and learn a tonne while doing it!
PS: If you're currently freelancing and want to dip your toe in the water before switching to a full-time role - we're cool with it. For the right candidate, we're open to working on a freelance basis on the provision that we'd switch to full-time in-house after 4-6 weeks of working together if we're both happy.
